Area Overview
Groundhog West is where most riders begin their SledBlueRiver experience. The zone has riding suitable for beginners, our younger riders and even experts! Explore the zone. You will find an old glass weather station, which is cool to check out. And if you really keep your eyes open there is even an old trappers cabin.
Groundhog West is located in the North Columbia mountain range. Please check the Avalanche Canada North Columbia Avalanche Safety Report before you begin your day.
Grooming
There are approximately 26 km’s of groomed trails to access this zone. Grooming is done regularly as weather permits.
Wildlife Closures
A Mountain Caribou herd is known to occupy this area and the surrounding terrain. In effort to support the governments Mountain Caribou recovery program, SledBlueRiver sends out a weekly patrol to search for recent Caribou activity.
If evidence of Caribou in the zone is found, the zone will be closed for a minimum of 7 days. This information will be shared with the ridership via social media and at the trail head booth. Any signs of recent Caribou activity should be reported to info@sledblueriver.com.
