Redsands

Area Overview

Red Sands offers a range of riding to be enjoyed by all. The zone is large and has so many different types of riding it is hard to even know where to begin.

After 13 km’s of groomed trail and approximately 2 km’s of single track you access the high alpine riding area. There, you will find large open slopes with rock chutes, deep snow and plenty of adventure riding. The various types of terrain make for a great day of technical lines. If you keep exploring the zone you can also find incredible tree riding and hidden pockets of major deep snow.

Collaboration between SledBlueRiver and Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing has resulted in a large zone with plenty of fun for everyone. Landing and taking off in a helicopter is a significant safety moment for the pilots, guides and guests. To help ensure everyone’s safety we ask that when you see a helicopter landing, taking off and using an area please respect that use and give them ample space. After a run or two they typically move on and then you can then safely access the spot.

Red Sands is located in the North Columbia mountain range. Please check the Avalanche Canada Safety Report before you begin your day: North Columbia Avalanche Safety Report

Red Sands is one of my favourite zones to ride. You can find everything from steep technical trees, to natural jumps, to big alpine zones with a beautiful view back towards town. The short trail and easy access make it the perfect half-Sunday ride before driving home to Alberta.
